How Do You Clean The Idle Air Control Valve On A Toyota?

Posted on March 26, 2022March 27, 2022

Using a wrench, remove the IAC valve by turning it counter-clockwise (loosen) and remove the valve. Spray it down with carburetor cleaner until it’s clean and then proceed to spray some WD-40 on it for that little added protection. You can use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to help with the cleaning.

How do you clean an IAC valve on a Toyota?

  • Place the Toyota in "Park" on level ground and let the vehicle cool for twenty minutes.
  • Locate the IAC valve under the hood of the Toyota.
  • Disconnect the valve harness by unhooking it.
  • Spray the inside of the IAC valve with throttle body cleaner.
  • What are the symptoms of idle air control valve?

One of the most common symptoms associated with a problematic idle air control valve is irregular idle speed. If the valve fails or has any issues it can cause the idle speed to be thrown off. This may result in an unusually high or low idle speed, or in some cases a surging idle speed that repeatedly climbs and falls.

How do you test a Toyota IAC valve?

  • Open the hood of your vehicle.
  • Pull the electrical plug off the control valve.
  • Take out the idle control valve and flip it over.
  • Take your voltmeter and set it to “Ohms.”

The idle air control (IAC) valve is located on the throttle body of fuel-injected engines, where it works with the vehicle's ECU to electrically regulate airflow to the engine to ensure smooth idling.

How do I reset my idle speed?

  • Start the engine in Park/Neutral. Rev the engine to above 2,500rpm and hold for 10-15 seconds.
  • Slowly reduce throttle back to idle.
  • The ECU should now begin to learn the idle position (you will hear the sucking sound through the throttle body change as the Idle Air Control Motor changes position).
